In Volume 9 of BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX-, the battle against Mamushi of the Hitoshinjyu comes to an end. Meanwhile, Sarada sets out to lure Code into the open, as the relationship between Kawaki and Amado takes a new turn.

This article provides a spoiler-filled summary of Volume 9, along with analysis of Code’s purpose, Sarada’s actions, and developments through the latest chapter, Chapter 37, leading into Volume 10.

During the battle against Mamushi of the Hitoshinjyu, Sarada and Kawaki are taken down, while Boruto and the others struggle to find a way through. Then Inojin, who had been handling communications, arrives and defeats Mamushi using the Mind-Transformation Technique.

Inojin takes control of Mamushi's shared consciousness and uses Daemon's reflection ability to crush both of Mamushi's eyes. Mamushi rapidly disappears, leaving Sarada and Kawaki safe.

When Sarada wakes up, she is told that her eyesight has deteriorated from using the Mangekyo Sharingan and that continued use will eventually leave her blind. Even so, her resolve does not waver. Wanting to help Boruto, she accepts the fate that comes with the Mangekyo Sharingan.

Later, Boruto calls Sarada and asks her to act as bait to lure Code out. She agrees without hesitation, receives the symbol Boruto uses for Hiraishin no Jutsu, and walks through the village while deliberately making herself detectable through the Claw Marks.

Meanwhile, Amado summons Kawaki. Kawaki had previously asked Amado to configure his new Karma specifically for offense, and now the plan is to modify it even further.

As a condition of the deal, Kawaki takes Kashin Koji to Amado.

Code's Goal Is Still Alive

Code's goal is to carry on the will of the Otsutsuki.

This was entrusted to Code by the spirit of Isshiki Otsutsuki, who appeared after Isshiki's death.

Code, who failed to become a vessel for the Otsutsuki, is now targeting the current Otsutsuki, Boruto and Kawaki, in an attempt to become a new Otsutsuki himself. This raises two questions: how Code's power compares with theirs, and whether someone other than Boruto or Kawaki could be used as the sacrifice.

How Code's Power Compares With Boruto and Kawaki

At this point, the gap in power between Code and the two of them does not appear to be overwhelmingly large.

Like Kawaki, Code underwent experiments in an attempt to become a vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki. Unlike Kawaki, however, he failed to become a vessel and was left only with a White Karma.

Although the White Karma cannot serve as a backup for Isshiki's resurrection, the pure power it carries remains within Code's body, granting him immense strength. His combat ability even surpasses that of Jigen, Isshiki's former vessel, which is why Amado placed limiters on him.

However, Code had those limiters removed in Volume 18 of BORUTO -NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS-. He later used his enhanced Claw Marks to split the Jūbi, and the new ways he has used his abilities since the limiters were removed suggest that his combat strength has increased.

Could Someone Other Than Boruto or Kawaki Be Used as the Sacrifice?

To make a Chakra Fruit grow on the Divine Tree, a living Otsutsuki must be fed to it. That is why Isshiki chose Boruto or Kawaki, both of whom were becoming Otsutsuki through Karma, as potential sacrifices.

However, circumstances have changed. The Hitoshinjyu have now emerged, and Sasuke and many others have been absorbed into trees.

To save those people, Togedama are required. They are depicted not simply as weapons, but as crystalline forms that seem to contain the energy of the Divine Tree.

As discussed in the analysis of BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- Volume 6, if Togedama contain information such as the memories of the Divine Tree or Otsutsuki DNA, using one to restore someone who has been turned into a tree could also transfer Otsutsuki-related information into that person.

If that person could also be considered an Otsutsuki, Code would only need to choose someone weaker than Boruto or Kawaki and use a Togedama on them. Feeding that person to the Divine Tree could then produce a Chakra Fruit.

Another possibility is the clones, or artificial humans, created by Amado. Kashin Koji, Delta, and other creations of Amado have displayed abilities associated with the Otsutsuki, including flight and Shinjutsu.

If these Otsutsuki abilities are not simply copies but instead derive from Otsutsuki DNA, then feeding one of these clones to the Divine Tree could also produce a Chakra Fruit.

If Code then eats that Chakra Fruit, he could fulfill the will of the Otsutsuki entrusted to him by becoming a new Otsutsuki and continuing to evolve.

What Did Sarada Do After Code Captured Her?

Sarada tries to lure Code into a quiet backstreet. Code appears through a Claw Mark, restrains her, and attempts to pull her into it.

At that moment, Code notices Boruto's symbol in Sarada's possession. He throws the symbol aside and takes Sarada away. Just before she is taken, however, Sarada activates her Mangekyo Sharingan.

Volume 10 Release Date & Spoilers Through Chapter 37

When Will Volume 10 Be Released?

The latest chapter is Chapter 37, published in the November 2026 issue of V Jump.

Since BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX- volumes consistently collect four chapters each, Volume 10 will likely include Chapters 37 through 40. The release date for Volume 10 has not yet been announced.

Konoha.

Boruto arrives at the spot where Sarada was taken. As he tries to work out how to rescue her, he notices traces of blood left at the scene.

Following the blood trail, Boruto finds Sarada's earring. Her chakra still lingers on it, and Boruto understands what she intended.

──Sense the chakra from my other earring and use space-time ninjutsu to come to me──

Meanwhile, Jura, the leader of the Hitoshinjyu, is at a used bookstore. He appears to be buying books about cats for Hidari, who has recently discovered how cute they are.

Code brings Sarada back to the base, but Jura, the one he had hoped to see, is not there. Instead, Hidari attacks him. It is hardly surprising: Sarada is Hidari's target.

No matter how much Code explains Sarada's value, Hidari refuses to listen. A three-way battle breaks out, while Sarada remains calm, realizing that if things go well, she may be able to take both of them down.

In Volume 9 of BORUTO -TWO BLUE VORTEX-, Boruto and the others finally defeat Mamushi.

Several important developments also move the story forward for Sarada, Code, Kawaki and Amado.

In Chapter 37, Sarada, who has been taken by Code, leaves Boruto a clue, while a three-way battle between Sarada, Code, and Hidari begins at the Hitoshinjyu base.

How will the battle at the base unfold? What will Jura do when he returns to the base? And how will Boruto rescue Sarada? With Volume 10 ahead, the story is moving into another major turning point.
