First discomfort
In the first half of the story, there is a quiet sense of discomfort in Leo’s (Eden Dambrine) behavior.
He begins to keep a distance from Remi (Gustav De Waele), who was once so close to him. The shift feels sudden and almost one-sided.
At first, Leo appears cold. It even makes you wonder if that distance is what led Remi to his final choice.
But as the story unfolds, what we see begins to change. We stop listening to Leo’s words, and start watching his expressions, his gestures.
What is he thinking?
What is he feeling?
What slowly comes into view is not cruelty, but loss.
What I couldn't put into words
Has Leo changed? Or is he breaking?
Perhaps it is neither of those things.
Maybe he simply stepped into adulthood just a little earlier.
A closeness that once felt natural suddenly becomes something to hide. You begin to notice how others see you. It is a quiet shift that comes to everyone.
But Remi had not reached that point yet.
Leo may not have been able to put that change into words. Or perhaps he was too embarrassed to do so.
So he chose distance, as a way to protect himself. But that silence never reached Remi.
Two people too close
Their closeness may have been too much.
Closer than siblings. Not quite love. They were something like a part of each other.
And because of that, even the smallest shift created a distance that could not be repaired.
There is a quiet irony here.
Remi could not understand the meaning of Leo’s change. And yet, he had become “mature” enough to make a decision about death on his own.
To understand death and choose it is something a child should never be able to do.
Living with it
What remained with Leo was not a clear sense of guilt. It was something more permanent, an understanding that would never leave him.
What did my words do? What did my silence cause?
He knows. And he will always know.
All of this comes through quietly in the scene where Leo faces Remi’s mother.
He is rejected. Pushed away. And still, in the end, he is held.
There is no forgiveness. There is no salvation.
No one denies the fact of what happened. It simply remains.
After that, Remi’s house becomes empty, because the reality is too heavy for life there to continue as before.
And yet, Leo still goes there.
That final look in his eyes is not resolution. It is the gaze of someone who has chosen to live with what cannot be undone.
Nothing is resolved.
Nothing is saved.
And yet, we keep moving forward.
We live, and we carry it with us.
This film does not explain everything. It simply remains, quietly, in the sky of your mind.
